Anand to get award in Doha

Super 30 founder Anand Kumar, whose novel initiative has helped several students from poor families crack the IIT-JEE, will be conferred the prestigious ‘Education in Excellence’ Award-2011′ in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on May 13.

The award is being given by the Bihar Foundation, Doha chapter and the Indian Association for Bihar and Jharkhand at a function, ‘Ek Shaam, Bihar ke Naam’, on the occasion of Bihar’s year-long centenary celebration.

Anand has been invited to the function as a special guest. Bihar Foundation is a Bihar government initiative, set up in 2008. It has seven chapters across the world.

Bihar minister for minority affairs and science and technology Shahid Ali Khan has also been invited to attend this function at Doha. Khan said he will be leaving for Qatar on Thursday.

Commenting on the decision to confer the award on Anand Kumar, organizing committee head Shakeel Kakwi said: “It is a matter of pride for not just Bihar but the entire world that Anand Kumar has been consistently giving a ray of hope to the underprivileged lot and helping them join India’s premier institutions.”

Anand, happy with the recognition, said the real credit for making Super 30 a global success should go to his team and more importantly to the students who strive to achieve their goal.
